"The California Art Club is honored to be working with LA Opera to
create, as part of Ring Festival LA, special exhibitions of artwork
inspired by the Ring operas," said artist Peter Adams, the
Club's President. "As the Club celebrates its Centennial, we are
thrilled to have the opportunity to capture on canvas, and in sculpture,
scenes from these epic operas, continuing the Club's tradition of
memorializing California's rich history in works of art that will be
viewed by generations to come," added Adams. The California Art Club
promotes traditional fine arts in the fields of painting, drawing and
sculpture by encouraging a dialogue between artists and art enthusiasts
through its exhibitions and educational programs.

Spotlight on the Speakers Bureau
The Speakers Bureau, a joint program of the Opera League of Los Angeles
and LA Opera, is introducing groups throughout the area to the world of
opera. This fall the Speakers Bureau is bringing the magic of the
Ring cycle to Los Angeles with talks at public libraries across
the region. This special group of volunteers have undertaken hours of
training under the guidance of LA Opera's dedicated Education and
Community Programs team. The OPERA LIBRARY PROJECT began seven years
ago, continues to grow and now brings more than 90 presentations to
libraries all over the County. LA Opera's staff works with each
individual library to develop programs with elements from each corner of
the opera world, and this year, of course, it's all things
Ring. Talks have been developed to introduce the public to
Siegfried, and Götterdämmerung. Next spring audiences
will have the opportunity to hear all about Wagner's epic when
volunteers roll out a talk entitled A Look at the Ring Cycle, LA
Opera Style. "We are proud of this dedicated team of knowledgeable
volunteers who give so much to the public and who remain so dedicated to
LA Opera," said Stacy Brightman, Ph.D., LA Opera's Director of Education
and Community Programs. "In addition, we are pleased that libraries
across the region have joined with us as Partners in Ring Festival LA.
These volunteers and libraries are truly paving the 'Road to the
Ring.'"
